Good to Know
These traits are typical of this material (and not something we consider a fault). Here we try to share with you everything we know about this material; we'd like to empower you with this information so that you may embrace it, and design within the scope of the manufacturer features.
What's Behind Will Show Through
Due to the translucency, anything placed underneath will show through (so layering designs may give an undesirable effect).
Matte Finish Not Recommended for Paint Fill
The protective tape doesn’t adhere well to the matte surface, which can be problematic for techniques like paint fill. We typically don't recommend doing paint fill on matte acrylic (unless you've done some testing on samples first and are savvy with the process).
Recommended Uses
- We most often see frosted acrylic used for simple hanging pieces (so that seeing glue through the transparency isn't an issue).
- The style of this material is pastel and light; when used with curvaceous and organic shapes it creates a stunning 'soft' end product.
- Looks great when used as 'connecting' pieces for hanging earrings, especially when contrasted with materials that have a bold and/or gloss finish.
More Information
- Cuts well and leaves a clean, smooth edge line that typically shows the core colour on the sides.
- Engraves well and can hold fine details (engraved areas typically have a frosted white appearance). Engraving looks most effective on darker colours (so that it will show contrast).
- Comes with a protective tape coating that will need to be peeled off.
- It is difficult to capture colour correctly; allow for slight variation from monitor to reality.
